We provide editorial, proofreading and written English support for students working on essays, dissertations, theses and other academic documents. Support is available at different stages, from an early draft requiring further development to a completed document needing final checks before submission.

Structure and Argument

At document level, the focus may be on structure, organisation and flow, ensuring that ideas are presented in a logical order and arguments are clear and adequately supported. We look for areas where the meaning is unclear, information is repeated or transitions between sections need improvement. Questions and potential problems are flagged for discussion, allowing you to decide how best to address them while retaining responsibility for your academic work.

Language, Referencing and Final Checks

At sentence level, attention is given to clarity, grammar, sentence structure, word choice and consistency, including the particular challenges faced by students writing in English as an additional language. Referencing and formatting can also be checked for consistency with the required style, followed by a final proofread for spelling, punctuation, typographical and presentation errors. Our role is to improve the communication and presentation of your work without writing it for you or compromising academic integrity.
