Your Work, Clearly Presented

Academic writing is not only about knowing your subject. You also have to organise your ideas, develop an argument and present your research in a way that allows the reader to follow what you are saying.

We work with essays, dissertations, theses, journal articles and other academic documents. Support can be provided while a document is still being developed or when the work is complete and needs a final edit or proofread before submission.

Structure and Argument

When you have spent a long time researching a subject, it can be easy to assume that the reader knows something simply because you know it. An argument may make sense in your head but have a missing step on the page, or an important point may be buried beneath information that is less relevant.

We look at the structure and organisation of the document, whether the argument develops logically and whether the information provided supports the point being made. Repetition, unclear passages and sudden changes of subject can be identified, together with places where further explanation may be needed.

Academic English

Writing academically in English can present additional difficulties, particularly when English is not your first language. A sentence may be grammatically possible but still sound unnatural, or the wording may not express quite what you intended.

We can help with grammar, sentence structure, word choice, phrasing and flow while retaining your meaning. Referencing and formatting can also be checked for consistency with the style you are required to use.

The Work Remains Yours

Editing is not the same as writing an assignment for you. We do not research your subject, construct your argument or add conclusions that you have not reached yourself. If information is missing or an argument is unclear, we point it out so that you can decide how it should be addressed.

You remain responsible for the academic content and for meeting the requirements of your university or institution. Our role is to help you communicate your own work clearly and accurately without compromising academic integrity.

Before Submission

A final proofread checks spelling, punctuation, grammar, formatting and presentation, as well as small inconsistencies that can easily be missed after repeatedly working on the same document.
